Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept assistance (subsidy)?
Yes! All of our centers currently accept Virginia child care subsidy (VA-DSS), and we also work with Child Care Aware. Ask us about your options during a tour — we're happy to help you find what you qualify for.
How much does it cost?
Pricing varies by program, schedule, and age. We review tuition in detail during a center tour so families receive accurate information tailored to their needs.
Do you provide food?
Yes! For children in our toddler program and higher, we provide breakfast, lunch, and two snacks per day. Our child-friendly menus are fully compliant with the current USDA standards for early childhood nutrition. Menus are provided to parents in advance, and families may supply alternate meals for their children if they choose. All of our centers are nut-free facilities.
Do you have cameras?
All our centers use cameras for the safety and security of our children and staff. Due to the privacy needs of all children and families in our care, camera access is not available to customers or unauthorized staff. Upper management reviews camera footage regularly and also by request.
Do you offer drop-in/hourly care?
Yes! We offer drop-in care as space allows. Drop-in priority is given to children enrolled in a program and then available first-come-first-served by request through our mobile app. Due to Virginia childcare regulations, drop-in children must have all paperwork completed and comply with the policies and procedures in place for all enrolled families.
How does Callahan Learning Center handle challenging behavior?
We work to keep a safe, calm, and nurturing environment, and we also know that every child has good days and bad days. We use gentle guidance and redirection to address issues that may arise. Callahan Learning Center also utilizes consistent routines and frequent communication with parents to prevent challenging behaviors before they occur. When challenges persist, we collaborate with parents to determine the appropriate next steps.
What happens if a child struggles in a group setting?
When children struggle with acclimating to care in a group setting, we communicate openly with families and work together to assess whether additional support or a different environment may better meet the child's needs. No single program is the right fit for every child at every stage — we prioritize honesty and the wellbeing of children, families, and classrooms above all else.
Will you work with parents if a child needs extra support?
Yes. Parent partnership and communication are essential to a successful early learning experience.
Are you hiring?
Yes! Callahan Learning Center is always happy to connect with people who are passionate about early childhood education. If you're interested in joining our team, see our current openings and apply on our Careers page — we're currently accepting applicants for a variety of roles.
