See a Real Day
Two real days from our Daily Journal.
This is what our families see, all day, every day.
Every day, our teachers fill in your child's Daily Journal in the Child Care Seer app: when they arrived, what they ate, how long they napped, the lessons they did, and photos along the way. Here are two real days from our classrooms, one in our infant room and one in our preschool room. We've taken out names and a few private details. Everything else is what the family saw.

Working Toward Sitting
Today we played in positions that build up to sitting. With soft toys placed to draw a reach, babies pushed up, leaned on an arm and held themselves steady for a moment at a time. Sitting looks like stillness but it is a whole body's worth of work, and every wobble is that work happening.

Our Book, Our Pace
Today the babies ran the book. They held it and turned the pages in whatever order they liked while we named the sounds as they appeared. When a baby sets the pace, the pages they linger on tell us exactly what has caught them - and that is where we put the words.
Teacher's noteWe explored a book about βFall.β

Tummy Time
Today we met a new texture from up close. On our tummies our hands and cheeks do the exploring, and a surface that is soft, bumpy or cool is information a baby can only get by lying right on it.

Groups of Three
Today we looked at small groups of things and worked out how many were there, up to five, spending most of our time on groups of three. Recognizing a small amount at a glance, without counting it out one by one, is a real step on from reciting numbers in order.

What Scientists Do
Today we became scientists. We each had an ice cube in a bowl, watched what it did, said what we noticed out loud, and wrote it down on our chart. Observing something carefully, describing it, and recording it is what science actually is, and it turns out to be something a three-year-old can genuinely do.

Morning Meeting
Today we reviewed the calendar and then walked through the day's schedule - what comes first, what follows it, and what we do before families arrive. Saying the order out loud gives a child something to plan against, and it is why a transition announced in advance goes so much better than one that simply arrives.

Why We Listen
Today we talked about why listening matters. We read a book about it and worked out together what happens when we listen and what happens when we do not. Understanding the reason behind an expectation is what makes a child more likely to meet it when nobody is reminding them.

Outdoor Adventures
Today we picked something to try that was harder than what we already knew we could do. Choosing your own challenge - a higher rung, a faster run, a longer balance - and sticking with it through a few failed goes is the disposition that keeps a child learning long after any single skill stops mattering.
